Time to Sign Up for Extended School Year 2013

Extended School Year (summer) programs will be offered at both Deron I & Deron II.  The programs are scheduled to run from July 1st through August 13th (with July 4-5th off for the holiday).  If your child is not already enrolled and you would like for them to attend, please call the school.  See Extended School Year page for a full description of this educational, fun-filled, six-week program.

Green Vision at Deron School (Montclair) will be hosting its next recycling event on Sat, Jan 5th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  Open to the community, the following items will be accepted at no charge:  computers, copiers, keyboards, phones, printers & small appliances.  Fees for other items include: $5 for each TV or CRT monitor & $20 for items containing freon.  Certificates for hard-drive destruction available for $10 per drive.  Collection will take place at The Deron School, 130 Grove Street, Montclair.  Call 973-509-2777 with any questions.

Don’t Throw It Away! Deron Students Work to Protect the Environment

Working in collaboration with Green Vision, Inc., eco-minded students at Deron I & Deron II are engaged in a new recycling program that will hopefully put a dent in the more than two million tons of old electronic appliances destined for land-fills each year! 

Students are highly motivated to learn the challenging tasks used to dismantle and recycle the various components of electronic devices (i.e. computers, printers, phones & fax machines).  While developing a set of job skills for future employment, they are also playing an active part in “saving the planet”!

Parent Workshop #5 – MAKING CHOICES

Behavior Analyst Dr. Daphna El-Roy will present her fifth in a series of Parent Workshops this coming Tuesday, July  10th , from 10:00-11:30 a.m., at Deron I in Union.  Dr. El-Roy will be speaking about ”Making Choices” – Teaching children and teens to make choices that can help them be happier and more independent, allow them to participate more fully during instruction and enable them to communicate more effectively. In this workshop you will learn different ways to assist your child in learning how to make choices.

Deron Schools To Host Open Houses

Both Deron I (Union) and Deron II (Montclair) will be holding Open Houses on a regular basis, beginning in May.  Anyone who wishes to visit our programs will have several opportunities to do so in the upcoming months as follows:  Deron I (Union) May 23 / June 7 / July 17 & Deron II (Montclair) May 22 / June 8 / July 18.  Tours & presentations are scheduled to begin at 10:00 A.M.  Feel free to call the schools for further information.

Deron I to Host SPAN Workshop

SPAN (Statewide Parent Advocacy Network) will hold a workshop at Deron I, Union on May 10, 2012 at 6:30 in the evening.  The presentation will provide an introduction to the rights and responsibilities of parents of children with special needs, focusing on Basic Rights in Special Education.  The workshop is free and open to all.
