6 Special Education Programs to Check Out

Special Education Program Spotlight: The Deron School

Since 1967, our specialized schooling approach and wide array of special education programs have taught our students to discover talents, cultivate strengths, conquer challenges, and become active members of their community. Here are just a few of the many services that differentiate The Deron School from any other special education school.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy

Our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy is a specialized intervention technique designed to teach our students to communicate more effectively through applied behavior modification techniques. Current ABA techniques involve observation, data collection, and individualized programming to align with our mission to help each learner reach their highest level of independence and achievement.

The Autism Program

Thanks to our Behavior Department, each Deron campus is equipped with a team of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA), and Behavior Consultants. These professionals are specially trained to help our learners with ASD. The team regularly collaborates across campuses to ensure that our Autism Program utilizes the best practices for all students.

The Bridge Transition Program

The Bridge Transition Program was created to bridge the gap between high school and adult life for students ages 18-21. At The Deron School, we aim to create a supportive working environment for students who have already fulfilled their high school requirements to further their education and prepare for their future as an employee.

Sensory Integration Techniques

At The Deron School, we understand the value and importance of sensory integration for students with special needs. Our multi-faceted, tiered approach aims to empower students to take an active role in their well-being through teamwork and collaboration in our sensory nooks and lounges.

PT/OT/SLP/Counseling

For students with special needs, services like physical and occupational therapy, combined with speech and language pathology, are critical to their success. Our team of seven Speech Therapists and ten Behaviorists work together to ensure all our students are well served.

Extended School Year Program

Our Extended School Year Program offers individualized academic instruction and transition activities to students who require services beyond the traditional school year. Students can expect various daily activities, including physical education, daily living skills, music, art, workshop, woodcrafts, gardening, and other outdoor experiences.
